Cambodian Emcees

Yuriko and I were Emcees at our friend's wedding this weekend. The groom is Japanese and the bride Cambodian. I busted out some Japanese while Emceeing. The wedding was done in Cambodian style and began at 5 p.m. on Friday and lasted until Saturday midnight. The bride had ~ 5 dress changes and we ate a whole pig for breakfast and a ten-course meal for dinner.

The Mahoney

While we were in Victoria, Chris and Sarah took us out to a breakfast place where Chris and I ordered the Mahoney. Ordering the Mahoney means that the chefs get to cook you whatever the heck they want. In my case I got this sweet meal:

After you are finished the meal, the server flips a coin and you call it - double or nothing. If you call it right - the meal is on the house. If you call it wrong...you're paying double. I got away scott-free. Chris was not so lucky (he is only 2 for 3 though).

BC

Yuriko and I went out to BC for Matt Brasnett's wedding where I was his best man. The wedding was in Harrison Mills at a gorgeous golf course. It was a lot of fun.

We then took the ferry to victoria and visited our friends Sarah and Chris. It is always fun hanging out with them - and their dog Charlee.

We also met up with our friend Ryan, who we haven't seen for too long. It was good to see him and catch up - he showed us around Mission, BC:

And finally we had a big hoopla 7 course dinner for Popo's (Yuriko's grandma) eightieth birthday. It was good to meet the Chinese of the family.

Birthday Weekend Extravaganza

It was both Chaco's and our friend Kent's birthdays this past Friday. Kent came from Langenburg and hung out with us for the weekend. It was a packed couple of days. We started off with all-you-can-eat sushi and then one of Yuriko's student and his family invited us over to their place on the river. It has been one of my goals to wakeboard on the river before I left Saskatoon and they helped me fulfill that dream:

We ate some good East Indian food for dinner, Homestead ice cream for dessert, and then checked out a wakeboard competition and the Saskatoon Jazz festival. We also checked out Public Enemies, which wasn't as good as I was hoping. The next day we celebrated Kent's birthday by making him move a Piano with me (whoo hoo!):

And of course we celebrated with some cake...

The King of Pop

There are two quotes that I have heard about Michael Jackson's death that need to be shared.

The first quote Yuriko and I overheard in a Vietnamese restaurant in Saskatoon. The owner, not talking to anyone in particular, sighed and said, "I just don't want to do anything, now that Michael Jackson died..." Life is tough.

The second quote we heard while listening to the radio. A listener called in and compared Michael Jackson's death to that of John F. Kenney and Ann Nicole Smith. What? Should those two names be in the same sentence?

Improvisation

You always hear about dogs burying bones in the dirt. Well, Chaco is an indoor dog, so she needs to improvise. Note the folded shorts on the floor in this picture, but the brown pair is jammed in the corner:

Pull those shorts back and see where Chaco has "buried" her bone:

I think she'll be excited to have a backyard soon.

Celebrity Gossip

I'm not normally one to indulge in the following of celebrity marriages, but this one may be an exception: Archie Andrews is going to propose to Veronica Lodge. A dissapointing day in my books. Personally, I'm still hoping the picture below is Archie showing Veronica the ring he bought for Betty (and Veronica getting the wrong idea). After this scene he'll head down to Pop Tate's Chok'lit Shoppe and pop the question to the right girl...unfortunately it's not looking that way.

You can pre-purchase the wedding set here. The first of 6 wedding issues is shipped beginning August 19th.
